A school is only as good as the parents allow. If you allow the district to be run by the superintendent without your input then you have no reason to complain. I'm sure you all complain about the government in Washington but when was the last time you called your Congressman to voice your complaint? If you don't take the time to voice your complaints then you are responsible for what goes on. You get what you deserve.

Still No Response

On May 7th I did a post titled "How Safe Are Your Kids?" and in the comments a parent, whose child was the subject of the post, wrote that they had contacted Dr. Shook about this problem. Guess what?
Still no response.
It doesn't matter what side a person takes on what is said on this blog I don't believe they could argue that Dr. Shook has a legitimate excuse for not responding. The last post showed she had time to attend the green propaganda presentation at Camp Beebe by her niece but cannot find time to respond to a parent's concerns. What is wrong here?
This is just another example that parents do not matter to the school administration. Otherwise, a simple call would have been returned and the teacher that claimed she couldn't wait to get drunk again would be offering an apology to the people in the Beebe that pays her salary.
Dr. Shook learned well from her former boss on how to disrespect the parents of the Beebe district.

Green Propaganda

The Beebe News reported that Miss UCA gave a program to the children of Camp Beebe about saving the earth and going green. My question is what qualifies Miss UCA to speak to children about this subject considering her goals in life are to sell real estate and be an interior designer? Does this make her a climate expert or just a propagandist?
She told the students about their carbon footprint but did she show her Aunt B what her footprint was? Aunt B receives government subsidies to not raise food but to raise hay. Is this the green thing to do? Where does this hay go but to cattle, which are one of the top greenhouse gas producers in the world.
You think your utility bills are high now just wait until cap and trade becomes law. If Dr. Shook is so interested in saving the planet to invite her niece to promote the green agenda then why doesn't she do something that might help? Why doesn't she start by doing away with baseball, softball and football? Think how much these after school sports harm the environment?
To start with the earth probably cries when the fields are fertilized and mowed. Then how much fuel is used to transport students to and from for these games? What about the water and utilities used to wash the uniforms? The crimes against the earth just keep increasing but Dr. Shook just recommends more money to expand these programs.

What's Up WIth This?

This bus is parked outside the former superintendent's residence. This was taken on a Saturday over the Memorial Day weekend. Why isn't this bus parked at the bus barn which is only a half mile away. We all know the so-called reason this house is rented at a below market rate to a district staff member is to provide security for the campus. That hasn't worked so well because it didn't prevent the break in last year. It was always my understanding that a bus driver would take a bus home if they lived out in the district and their route started around where they lived.
What is the reason this bus is driven home every day? Why is the district providing transportation to and from the place where this staff member lives?
If this staff member cannot provide security for the campus why would anyone believe they are able to provide security for the bus?
How many other staff members take school vehicles home every day?

How Safe Are Your Kids?

Who is looking after the children in the Kindergarten? This afternoon a student was picked up by a person that was not related to her. No one ask for any identification of this person. They just picked her up and drove away. The driver had never done this before and was surprised by the lack of security. Come on Beebe you can do better than this.

Emergency?

What is the emergency that has required a change in the time of Monday's board meeting? According to Board Policy all regular meetings of the board are to be held at 6:30 p.m. unless there is an emergency. Who declared this emergency that resulted in a change to board policy ? Should this change not have been voted on by the board?


Board Policy: 1.14(D), 1.C.
Regular meetings of the School Board and all School Board committees, shall, except in emergency situations, be held at 6:30 p.m.

UPDATE:
The Beebe News explained the emergency. The time for the board meeting was changed so the board could attend the Honors Ceremony scheduled for that evening at 6:30 p.m. Was this really an emergency because the same thiing happened last year and the board did not attend. Why is it necessary to attend this year when it wasn't last year? Can't somebody check the school calendar when it was approved by the board last year to make sure this non-emergency conflict did not occur?

Question

According to the March 9, 2009 board minutes the follow occurred. Dr. Shook recommended adding a G/T teaching position which was approved by the board. What I don't understand is why this position was needed. The board was told it was to replace the position left open when Ms. Tarkington accepted the position of Intermediate principal last year.
My question is why this action by the board was necessary. The position was left open not done away with. Therefore, it would not be necessary to add a new position to replace an already existing open position. Why not just hire a teacher to fill the already existing open position?
